Since mid May 2010, Madame Tussauds London has had a new attraction in addition to the wax museum. Kraftwerk Living Technologies was awarded the task of creating a multisensory 4D experience in the former planetarium.

The seats were especially designed by Kraftwerk Living Technologies and feature several special effects, enhancing furthermore the already exceptionally realistic 4D cinema experience. Integrated vibration, water, and air effects as well as leg ticklers make the visit even more intense and engaging.

The particularities of the dome had to be taken into consideration when designing the new cinematic experience. A particular challenge was having to integrate the new screen into the existing system. Due to extensive development, the Kraftwerk Living Technologies team designed an innovative solution by covering the existing screen with silver coated, synthetic panels which ensure a fantastic 3D experience.

Two high-end Christie projectors, each featuring 17,000 lumens provide high-resolution images on a 134 m2 screen surface with a 2,048 x 1,080 resolution. In addition to the 3D screen, five projectors guarantee brilliant reproduction throughout the dome. All five systems, each of them featuring 9,300 lumens, provide outstanding light intensity that meets Madame Tussauds’ high-quality standards. Axial and radial ventilators for wind effects, fog machines combined with eight moving heads, as well as strobe lights complete the theater experience.

To obtain the best sound for the attraction, the brand new 7.1 sound system by Meyer Sound was installed with seven Acheron loudspeakers as well as two 700 HP subwoofers. The quality provided by Meyer Sound is unrivalled and set a benchmark for all future high‑end applications worldwide.

Additionally to the design and implementation of the media technology, the system integrator Kraftwerk Living Technologies was also awarded with the transport and commissioning of the components. Considering the specific traffic situation in London, the delivery and installation of the entire equipment had to be planned and carried out in minute detail. Five trucks – loaded with seats, projectors, panels, loadspeakers, and more – delivered 16 tons of equipment to the attraction.
